Ants with wings? Should you be worried?

ants with wings, termites swarmers or ant wings

Ants with wings becomes a big issue in the pest control business around early spring. We get calls all the time from home owners concerned because they came home and found a large amount of ants with wings near a door or a window. Usually they will be dead or you might only see the wings left behind by the ants. This may not seem like a big deal maybe you just spray some bug spray on the ants and sweep up the wings. The problem with doing this is they may not be ants with wings at all. They might be termites. Above is an illustration of a termite swarmer and an ant with wings.

  • As you can tell the ant's wings are 2 different sizes and the termite swarmer's wings are the same size. So if all you find is wings and they are all the same size it could be termites and you should call a professional.
  • If you are able to get a look at the actual insect, look closely at it's mid section. If it is just an ant with wings it will have a very narrow midsection and if it is a termite swarmer it will have a mid section as wide as the rest of it's body.

If you have a hard time identifying the insect we will do it for you for free. Just take a picture of it and email it to us at aaaexterminating@gmail.com. We will tell you if it is ants with wings or termites and give you some good advice on how to proceed.

Have found ants with wings in several area of house but not swarmed together like article suggests. I determined they were ants and not termites because body is clearly three sections and antennas have 90 degree bends in them. How do I get rid of them, is there a bug bomb you can put in the house to kill all of them (the ones you can and cannot see)? Do they come into your home from outside? It is still winter here in Minnesota.

The bugs that are in my house look like flying fire ants, but it seems they only come out when it's dark and there is a bright light, like if the TV is on in a dark room, they will be all over it. They range in different sizes

I thought that I might have bed bugs because I have been getting tiny bumps similar to their bites but I have not seen any bugs or bug residue that leads to them. They are red right?? But I have found two bugs, one in my bed and one on my shirt. It is not red and does not look like any pictures of bed bugs I have seen. It looks more like a little ant with little wings. Please help

I have been seeing flying ants in our apartment, at first in the carpet but now on top of the bed sheets. And only in that room, why is that and how can I get rid of then. Could they have been brought in to the house by a tv that was stored in the garage?
